Compensation amount through SIMs: Over 16,000 connections handed to IDPs

PESHAWAR: With the government opting to coordinate distribution of compensation to the internally displaced people (IDPs) from North Waziristan Agency through mobile subscriber identity modules (SIMs), over 16,000 connections handed to IDPs have been activated.

Fata Disasters Management Authority (FDMA) Additional Director Haseeb Khan said on Thursday that the present mode for disbursement of cash amount among IDPs of North Waziristan in Bannu will stop from July 6. Thereafter payment would be disbursed through mobile SIMs.

He said distribution of SIMs has already been started with more than 20,000 SIMs distributed. Of these, 16,500 SIMs have been activated by the IDPs.

The registered IDPs will get the government announced compensation amount through SIMs given by Zong Cellular Company. Zong will establish its own counters and desks near each registration camp for facilitation of IDPs from where they can get SIMs.

The FDMA spokesperson said an understanding with Zong Company have been reached. The registered IDPs would be allowed to collect their money through authorised mobile franchises, retailers and banks.

Unregistered IDPs

A number of unregistered IDPs have been accommodated by relatives, hired rented building and living in outside of camps in other districts of Khyber-Pakthunkhwa.

"The registration of IDPs North Waziristan has been restarted and those living in Peshawar and northern districts of K-P have been directed to come to Government College of Commerce and Management Sciences No 2 located near Haji Camp Hayatabad Phase IIV for registration that would commence from July 7."

He said IDPs belonged to Miranshah would be registered on July 7, Boya and Datakhel (July 8), Mir Ali (July 9), Dosali and Garyum (July 10), Razmak and Shawal (July 11), Ghulam Khan (July 12) and while remaining left families would be registered on July 14, 2014. IDPs of these areas would be registered at Government College of Commerce and Management Science 2 Hayatabad registration centre on the mentioned dates.

Hasseb Khan said unregistered IDPs living in Southern Districts of K-P can approach and register themselves at Government Commerce College Bannu, Centennial Model School Bannu Govt High School No 4 and Bannu Sugar Mills registration centres from Thrusday.

He said IDPs registeration was restated in Bannu from today and IDPs belonged to Mir Ali, Razmak and Miranshah sub divisions can registered themselves at these registration centres in Bannu from July 3-15, 2014. He said staff of line departments and FDMA would assist IDPs in registration process.
