Substandard fertiliser seized

Move part of drive to check adulteration.

KARACHI:
More than 2,000 bags of spurious urea and thousands of empty bags of di-ammonium phosphate (DAP), fertiliser preparation and packing equipment were seized near Chowk BCG, Multan by a team of Agriculture Department, Punjab.

The seizure was part of the ongoing campaign to curb adulteration in pesticides and fertilisers.

According to details, police raided a hotel and arrested people with bags of adulterated fertiliser.


Following interrogation with the arrested persons, the officers in a subsequent raid arrested owners of an illegal factory.

The spokesman said officials of the Agricultural Extension Wing and Pest Warning have already been directed to check adulteration in fertilisers and pesticides for which a strong monitoring mechanism has been evolved.
