Third attack: Express News Peshawar bureau chief targeted again
Jamshed Bhagwan was leaving his house when he saw smoke outside the door.
PESHAWAR:
Unknown men placed a bomb outside the house of Express News Peshawar bureau chief Jamshed Bhagwan on Wednesday, which is the third attack of its kind targeting him.
The gate and drawing room of his house plus a parked car were damaged in the medium-intensity bomb blast outside his residence in Tayyaf Colony, Murshidabad.
The Yakatot police said the two motorcyclists placed a one-kilogramme timed device in a shoebox and fled.
Bhagwan was leaving his house to take a family member for a doctor’s appointment when he opened the door around 11 am and saw smoke.
“He rushed back inside and collected his family in a room. Soon after, the bomb exploded. Luckily there is no casualty,” a family member told The Express Tribune. Earlier, the bureau chief’s house was attacked with hand grenades on April 6. Before that, on March 19, the police defused a powerful homemade bomb outside his house.
“Jamshed, along with his family, had left his house for a while and shifted into a rented house. But he moved back a week ago,” informed the family member.
The police said that an FIR has been registered against unknown miscreants.
Federal Minister for Information Pervaiz Rashid strongly condemned the bomb attack at Bhagwan’s residence. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the minister said the government would take all possible steps to provide security to journalists so that they could perform their duties with professional ethos.
