ASI suspended as arms missing in police store

Dr Ashraf took notice of the misappropriation and suspended ASI Mustafa.

FAISALABAD:

An assistant sub inspector, in charge of the police arms store, was suspended on Wednesday over charges of misappropriation as several weapons were found missing from the store.

City Police Officer Dr Haidar Ashraf told journalists on Wednesday that they were conducting a general inspection of weapons when they discovered that 11 rifles were missing. He said an inspection team found that three sub machine guns, five semi-automatic and three MP-5 rifles had been misappropriated. He said these rifles had neither been issued to any police station nor mentioned in the arms register.

“When the inspection team interrogated Assistant Sub Inspector Ghulam Mustafa, the policeman in charge of the arms store, he could not give a satisfactory reply.”

Dr Ashraf took notice of the misappropriation and suspended ASI Mustafa. The CPO also formed a committee to probe weapons misappropriation and ensure their recovery.

Talking to journalists, the city police officer said some black sheep in the police department were defaming the whole department. “However, we have chalked out a comprehensive strategy to eliminate all these black sheep,” the CPO said. He added that the inquiry would be conducted without discrimination and strict action would be taken against whoever was found guilty.
