KARACHI: A medical board declared on Monday Salman Abro, the main accused in the Sulaiman Lashari murder case, a minor, Express News reported.
The report was presented during a hearing of the case in an anti-terrorism court (ATC) in Karachi.
An 18-year-old O’ Levels student, Sulaiman Lashari was gunned down at his house in Defence Housing Authority on May 8. He was allegedly killed by the main accused in the case, Salman Abro, who is the son of Sakrand Police Training Centre SSP Ghulam Sarwar Abro.
According to the report of the medical board, which was formed a day earlier, the main suspect is between 17 and 18 years of age.
Expressing reservations over the medical board's findings, the prosecutor claimed that the report was incomplete while Lashari's family said that they will challenge it in a higher court.
On May 27, the defence counsel had requested the court to treat Abro as a juvenile and send him to Karachi’s Youthful Offenders Industrial School as he was underage.
The district public prosecutor, Abdul Maroof, had argued that the medico-legal certificate of the Jinnah Hospital and the discharge certificate of the Ziauddin Hospital confirmed that the main suspect was over the age of 18 and submitted the certificates before the court.
Maroof had also contended that the defence did not submit any application to determine Abro’s age and at this stage the court cannot send him to a juvenile detention centre.
Adjourning the case to July 17, the ATC today ordered the police to send Abro to a juvenile jail.
The murder
Lashari was shot dead at 2am on May 8 while he was studying in his balcony. The young man was allegedly targeted by the SSP’s son who came to Lashari’s house along with five police constables to settle an argument.
The guards deployed at Lashari’s house had retaliated and the victim’s brother Zeeshan had also joined in after getting his weapon from his room.
Salman was also injured in the exchange of fire and one of his police guards, constable Zaheer Ahmed, was killed. The incident had also left Lashari’s guard, Ali Bugti, injured.
Charge sheet
On June 13, the police submitted the charge sheet against the suspects in the murder case.
Quoting Lashari’s brother, investigators revealed that Abro and Lashari had an altercation when Abro tried to overtake Lashari’s vehicle at Sea View, days before the former allegedly killed the latter.
In the charge sheet, the police had also inserted Section 457 (trespassing or breaking-in by night in order to commit an offence punishable by imprisonment) against the suspects, after determining that the suspects had forcefully entered the victim’s house with the intention of killing him.
The charge sheet also states that Abro and constables Maqbool Ahmed Brohi, Imran Ali Arain, Yaseen Jamali and Muhammad Rashid are in custody, while deceased constable Zaheer Ahmed was listed in Section 2 of the charge sheet.
A case was registered under Sections 302 (premeditated murder), 324 (attempted murder), 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupee) and 34 (common intention) of the Pakistan Penal Code, read with Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, on a complaint of a brother of the deceased at the Darakhshan police station.

Yet another example in Pakistan where this is no justice the rich rules and the poor suffers . We can't deny the fact that this will not stop no matter how many fb pages , strikes , etc . The whole system is corrupted from top to bottom
@atts: Yes, he has been driving for years, should be punished for driving without license as well.
the killer should be killed by the other party's underage (<18). That should be an eye for an eye
What a shame in a country where child brides are common a 17-18 years old man is minor. Only girls are not minor even when they are kids. While men who have been shaving for several years and committing cold blooded murders are minor! What money can do in our land of pure.
A murderer is murderer........irrespective of age. When will Pakistan's legal system function so as to provide justice ?
deja vu!! The not too distant case of Shahzeb's murder where the accused Shahrukh Jatoi is still not been sentenced. This is going the same way. There is no hope for the common man in this land. This land only belongs to the waderas, chaudhrys, their lackeys, and the filthy rich. Common man! you are on your own!!
@Huma: The Abro family will never concede that their son did anything wrong. In fact they will say that he can never do any wrong and it is always the fault of the other person. This is the mentality of our elites and feudals, and this is what they teach their young.
That reminds me of Akbar Bugti who proudly claims to have killed a man at the age of 10
I Think We Have Forgotten The Shahzeb Murder Case. After This Should Not Even Think About Justice.
Old game new faces , same old fate for Pakistan and Pakistanis if they won't disown these feudals ..
had shahrukh jatoi being brought to justice and served punishment, this incident might not have happened. i still find it hard to understand how some the victims family forgive shahrukh jatoi!
Just to inform all the angry comments senders sitting in their respective comfortable rooms that justice system and its loopholes are not only exploited in Pakistan, but its a world wide issue. We should stop criticizing the whole nation based on the actions of people who are not our representatives.
As far as the case is concerned, those who are really angry should come out of their comfort zone and do something for the masses to get easy and cheap justice, otherwise this will go like this and everybody will suffer
What about birth certificate? He was propably registerd when he got born, is not this a prove?? The judicial system of this country is a big joke, unbelievable.
Imagine, If Medical board officer had been the father of deceased boy could he dare to give the same statement.Unfortunately our society has become the epicenter of injustice, inhumanity and biasness where law is nothing more than a fun for elite
We are looking at a future Minister of Sindh or a senior government official.
Well done young man, murdering someone and with the right contacts you have the right credentials to succeed in the land of pure, Pakistan.
He will be released and soon he will commit another similar killing. I sincerely hope that his next victim is the son of the HEAD OF MEDICAL BOARD
This is really a Joke, to save the killer, so many agencies working This only can be happened in Pakistan No Justice , no punishment, it will be done again and again
ok, so now he serves some time in the juvenile detention centre......at 17+ he can drive a car and kill a human being.......but cant serve jail time....how very convenient!
An eye for an eye ... trust me ... only it will work !!!
