Pakistan Awami Tehreek chief Tahirul Qadri’s call for an all parties conference was an act of desperation to press the government to release former president Pervaiz Musharraf, Law Minister Rana Mashhood said at a press conference at his 90 Shahrah-e-Quaid-i-Azam office on Sunday.
The law minister said all the hue and cry about a long march by Qadri and the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf was nothing more than a tactic to get Musharraf released or allowed to leave the country. He said the politicians rallying behind Qadri had been rejected by the nation and were using anti-democratic means to get their demands met.
Politicians who had called the all parties conference, Qadri, Imran Khan, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s Chaudhry Pervez Elahi, Shujat Hussain and Sheikh Rasheed, were the same politicians who had supported Musharraf when he toppled the PML-N government on October 12, 1999, Mashhood said. He said Imran Khan, Qadri and the Chaudhrys had supported Musharraf’s referendum then and were now “waiting for a signal from other quarters to gain power through backdoor channels”.
“I want to tell these politicians that any hopes for such a signal have been dashed for good...when Qadri landed in Lahore, he asked the army to talk to him, but was duly snubbed,” said Mashhood.
He said the courts would decide the fate of the cases against Musharraf. He said the tactics of announcing all parties conferences and long marches to intimidate the government would not work. The law minister said the parties who had boycotted Qadri’s APC had shown themselves to be dedicated to democracy.
He said Qadri and Imran Khan did not trust national institutions and were willing to use any means to obtain power. Mashhood said the four demands Imran Khan had put forth were based on mere conspiracy theories pertaining to the judiciary and the Election Commission of Pakistan. He said the proper forum for redress in this case should have been the parliament.
The Pakistan Tehree-i-Insaf’s performance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was very poor, he said. “This is why Imran Khan has resorted to ball tampering.”
He said political leaders dejected over their performance in the May 11 elections should wait for the next elections. “If Imran Khan is so upset about Nawaz Sharif’s victory speech at 11:20pm, how does he explain Asad Umar’s acceptance of the PTI’s mandate in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at midnight.”
On May 9, 2013, two days before the elections, Khan predicted that the PTI would win in KP, Mashhood said. “What information did he base that on?”
He said the government had constituted a joint investigation team comprising members of the intelligence agencies to probe the Model Town incident. “Nowhere in the world would you see a country that is in a state of war and its political parties are trying to topple the government.”
He said the country needed stability to tackle the war against terrorists and to counter a possible blowback in the cities. Holding protests or long marches was not the way, he said, adding that Imran Khan needed to “stop dreaming about becoming the prime minister” and should do something to help the internally displaced persons in KP.

Some foreign elements and establishment want early release of Musharraf. Imran and Qadri are being used by these forces.
he seems to be as "INTELLIGENT" as earlier law minister was ....
PML-Q, PTI, MQM and tahir ul Qadri supported Musharraf. Now they want to come into power through back doors.
Establishment will never allow two full terms of democratic rule. That's why they have roped in PTI, PAT and Sheikh Rasheed to bad-mouth the present government. Does anybody think that the problems of Pakistan can be solved in 1 year? What has PTI done in KPK? Now IK wants to dissolve the KPK government because nobody can ask him for a report card. These so-called revolutionary leaders are even worse than the present lot.
If govternment does not allow Musharraf to go abroad, political instability will be in Pakistan backed by establishment. If government allows Musharraf to go abroad, opposition parties will criticize the government. In both the cases, negative politics by opposition parties.
PTI Media Cell in full action. Haters even don't read the complete text of the news. Read carefully what is he syaing. He is 100% right that main issue is Musharraf. Government is being blackmailed by Establishment with the help of opposition parties.
There is no doubt that Musharraf is the real bone of contention. Establishment is using Imran Khan and Tahir ul qadri to put pressure on the government. Establishment wants government to allow Musharraf to go abroad. As soon as Musharraf is allowed to go abroad, all things will be normalized. Imran Khan and tahir ul qadri are puppets of establishment.
@Hamood: @Ricky: Of course NS is also a product of martial law. However, hopefully he has learned his lessons and is showing remorse and never did it again. Not in Pakistan but there is a word reform. Most in the US were against gay rights but they slowly are coming to the equality of all humans. I agree it is this rightwing gang of losing politicians that has never taken a clear position after supporting a dictator and never showed remorse. Regards, M
@Ricky, don't forget his highness Mian Nawaz Sharif is also a product of dictators. Any attack on this gang and suddenly democracy is in danger?
Is there any sensible man left in PMLN to comments ?
Well said. Traitors like Musharraf (who not only overthrew the constitution by abusing his power but also introduced raised the "good taliban" that the government and military are finally engaged in eliminating), Imran Khan (who for years served as Minister of Propaganda for the Taliban by spreading lies about them being "good muslims" and "invincible warriors" that Pakistan was too weak to fight) not to mention the good-for-nothing molvi Qadri who is caught lying by saying opposite things about his role in introducing the blasphemy law under Zia, have done tremendous damage to Pakistan. Those who support them share the same contempt for the right to vote of the people of Pakistan as these traitors, and are as incapable of any intelligent thought as these traitors.
"Imran Khan, Qadri and the Chaudhrys had supported Musharraf’s referendum"
These forces and MQM always supported dictators. All the above comments are based upon emotions and hatred. Nobodyy can deny the facts that these leaders are Mush lackeys and still want to keep establishment happy. None of them can ever win any election no wonder who conducts them. If last elections were not fair then how about all previous elections? Eternal losers are all united to come to power through back doors.
Elections were not perfect. Still the overall results would have been the same. In a society which has rampant irregularities, the overall results gain significance. Losers are focusing on a few seats that does prove that all other results were okay, So just discount the four seats and the results in terms of entitlement to form govt would remain the same. Thus let this govt complete its term or at least give it another year to judge its performance. Destabilize and you are likely to cause harm to the country. So desist in the best interest of Pakistan.
Imran Khan should take his arguments to the election tribunals. Nobody is interested in listening to him as everyone knows he is just a power hungry opportunist. Best of luck in leading your fake tsunami to Islamabad. It's a do or die for you as u are going to be relegated to the dustbin of history. Same goes for TUQ.
I always believed IK was an honest politician although not the smartest. But in this case he is obviously not telling the truth. NS only claimed victory after IK conceded defeat. Asad Umar claimed victory in KPK even before the final results were out. Does that mean PTI did dandli in KPK? Just silly politics by PTI that makes no sense. Obviously his dharnas are instigated by the establishment for other reasons.
Musharraf has hurt the sentiments of Muslims through his Lal Masjid operation. He is a criminal who must pay for his crimes.
The new hired hand of the Sharifs is being more loyal to the King than the previous law minister. The people are demanding opening up ballot boxes for four constituencies for the last one year. Someone who is democratically elected will rush to do that to prove their legitimacy. Instead, these hired hands are claiming that asking for justice and transparency is a conspiracy to protect Musharraf.
Go zardari go. Does anyone remain that chant by nawaz and his party when zardari was still constitutional president.
PML-n would do well by moving beyond Musharraf and let things go forward. With the very best brains and street power any opposition wouldn't have achieved what PML-N has done for itself by commiting one mistake after another and being stubborn and indecisive.
PMLN gasping for last breaths of air. You will reap what you sow and the atrocities in Model Town shall prove to be your downfall
Nice try Mr. Minister! Had this been for Musharraf, this would have happened last year when he was facing cases.
Finally, the PML-N is likely to show some spice and more importantly some spine. Best of luck, wishing continuity. Live well.
When PMLN is so wrong in the symptoms, they won't be able to do anything constructive to fix the current situation.
Complete baloney. It is statements like these on top of the corrupt practices, which is isolating the PMLN.
PML(N) has been in power in Punjab or Center since 1985 and this guy wants IK to show performance in KP in one year? Mr. Law Minister, how about showing your performance since 1985?
