FAISALABAD: Minister of State for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali on Sunday accused Imran Khan of impeding progress in the country.

Ali alleged that Khan was conspiring against the people of Pakistan by not recognising the parliament and the judiciary. The minister was speaking to journalists in Faisalabad.

He said Khan should focus on his party’s performance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and provide adequate assistance to the population displaced from North Waziristan. Ali said the government had launched several power generation projects to overcome the energy crisis. The minister said the idea of a progressive Pakistan was an anathema to Khan as it spelled doom for the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Ali said there would be no load-shedding during the sehr and iftar times and taraveeh prayers and a load-shedding schedule had been specifically devised for the benefit of the people during Ramazan.

The minister earlier visited a Ramazan Bazaar at Riaz Shahid Chowk near Iqbal Stadium where he inspected a number of stalls for price, quality and stock. He said the government had made elaborate arrangements to provide citizens with basic necessities at subsidised prices during the holy month.

“The chief minister’s Ramazan Package worth Rs5 billion is aimed at providing economic relief to the common man and a network of Ramazan Bazaars has been organised across the province to discourage profiteering,” the minister said.

He said the entire state machinery had been devoted to monitoring activities at Ramazan Bazaars and any attempt to exploit citizens would be severely dealt with. The minister praised the district authorities for organising the Ramazan and Sahulat Bazaars and directed them to ensure adequate stocks of basic necessities and address all complaints on priority.

District Coordination Officer Noorul Amin Mengal informed the minister that 21 Ramazan Bazaars had been established across the district and special arrangements had been made to facilitate senior citizens.
