Monsoon rains: CDA sets up flood relief cell

ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has established a flood relief cell to cope with emergencies during the monsoon.

Civic Management Director-General Nadeem Akbar Malik was made chief coordinator of the cell at a meeting held at authority’s headquarters, said a press release.

The Metrological Department has predicted pre-monsoon rains from July 2.

The CDA chairman directed the building control directorate officials to ensure availability of machines to pump out stagnant water. The officials were directed to issue warnings to the people who have houses in low-laying areas, where flood may possibly cause devastation, to remain alert.

The meeting was informed that slum dwellers of sectors F-6, F-7/4, G-8/1, G-7/3, G-7/2, G-7/1 would be warned through notices and public announcement to remove illegal structures alongside drains to avoid any untoward situation during the monsoon.

The citizens have also been asked to contact on the helplines — 16, 1334 or 051-285-5513— for assistance.
