Official visit: ‘Cases of martyred policemen disposed off through compensation’
Plots will be allotted to families of policemen who were martyred in 1990s.
KARACHI:
Almost all cases pertaining to martyred or injured police officials have been disposed off, Sindh IGP Iqbal Mehmood was told during his visit to different sites in Karachi.
He was informed that an amount of Rs666.5 million has been paid as compensation during the financial year 2013-2014. As many as 327 families of the martyred policemen were given financial assistance amounting to Rs645.7 million, while 151 injured policemen were compensated with an amount of Rs20.8 million.
Mehmood was visiting an area of 300 acres which has been set aside for distribution among the heirs of martyred policemen. He further learned that under the scheme, plots will be allotted to families of even those policemen who were martyred in as early as 1990. The IG reviewed the progress of development work related to town-planning in detail, and issued relevant directives.
He also visited six different sites on which as many as 600 apartments are expected to be built for the police. These sites include Garden Headquarters, Risala Police Lines, Nagina Police Lines, Qayyumabad Sindh Reserve Police (SRP) Bases, and others. He was informed that at each site, around 100 apartments will be constructed for the accommodation of married police personnel.
Police performance
During his visit to Qayyumabad SRP Base II, Iqbal Mehmood was briefed about the SRP's performance. SRP DIG Tahir Aalam told him about the functioning of his branch. He also mentioned the operational effectiveness of the quick response force (QRF). He said that the QRF personnel have been placed at the disposal of the east, west and south zones of Karachi to help maintain law and order in the metropolis. He told Mehmood that the SRP are deployed on various government buildings, vital installations, consulates, and others such places, as and when required by the district police.
