Dance of democracy: Previous elections were a farce says Elahi
Elahi reiterated Imran Khan’s stance on election rigging and called the entire process a farce.
LAHORE:
Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) leader Chaudhry Pervez Elahi on Saturday said that his party’s suspicions regarding election rigging had been confirmed. He said other parties had endorsed his party’s stance and the names of those involved in rigging the elections had become public.
He was speaking to journalists after visiting Dr Tahirul Qadri’s residence. Elahi reiterated Imran Khan’s stance on election rigging and called the entire process a farce. He held the government responsible for the deteriorating situation in the country.
Elahi said former chief justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was personally responsible for wrecking his own judicial policy that was crafted in 2009. He said the victory speech by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders, before the counting of votes was completed, was a message for returning officers to rig elections in their favour. Elahi said the PML-Q had lost 44 national and provincial assembly seats in Punjab due to rigging. Elahi said the former chief justice had taken over the electoral process. The then election commissioner had resigned over election irregularities that Nawaz Sharif was responsible for.
