Pakistan oust India from world event

Defending champions progress to IBSF snooker championship semis.

KARACHI:

Defending champions Pakistan sailed into the IBSF World Team Championship semi-finals after thrashing India 4-1 in the quarter-final clash in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt.

Team members Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Sajjad went down in the first game as their rivals led 1-0 in the singles frame.

But Pakistan cut the deficit by winning the next one to make it 1-1. Then in the third frame of the doubles, Asif and Sajjad put Pakistan in front, which enabled them to lay the foundation for victory.

With Pakistan 2-1 up, the team raised the bar and made sure that India did not get back into the match, winning the next two frames with scores of 31-71(52), 80-41(59), 62-17, 84-11 and 51-14.

Earlier, Pakistan had beaten Egypt 3-1 with a scoreline of 99-37, 10-60, 62-38 and 68-63.

Pakistan will now take on Iran in the semi-final as they look to defend their team title in the second edition of the world championship.

Sajjad loses in 6-Red quarters

Sajjad crashed out of the IBSF 6-Red World Championship after Poland’s Kacper Filipiak beat him 5-2 in their quarter-final clash.

The Pakistani cueist won the first frame after a tough fight, but Filipiak was the victor in the next four games. Sajjad then won the fifth game to change it to 4-2, but that was all he could manage as his opponent took the next frame to seal victory with scores of 25-37, 33-24, 45-01, 40-09, 32-20, 15-38 and 47-01.
