Love marriage: Newly married couple shot dead by girl’s father

They had married against the wishes of the girl’s parents.

FAISALABAD:

A couple was shot and killed on Friday by the father of the girl and two other relatives in Madina Town for marrying without her family’s approval, police said.

They said Aiman*, a resident of Ghokhowal, had married Abdul Ghaffar of Jhang Road a month ago against the wishes of her parents.

Khalid Hussain, the girl’s father, had recently gone to Ghaffar’s house and said that he wanted the family to come together again.

Police said Hussain called the couple to the Madina Town residence of his brother Tahir Hussain and shot and killed them with the help of his brother and another relative, Kulsoom Bibi.

Abdul Majeed, a cousin of Ghaffar, told journalists that Hussain had recently come to the couple’ house and reprimanded his daughter for marrying against his wishes.

“However, we pacified him and requested him to pardon his daughter and son-in-law. He calmed down after a while and agreed to forgive them.”

Majeed said Hussain then invited the couple to Tahir Hussain’s house. “He lied to us when he said that he had forgiven Aiman and Ghaffar.”

He said when the couple had gone to Tahir Hussain’s house they were shot and killed. Madina Town Station House Officer (SHO) Waheed Ahmad said they had sent the bodies for autopsy.

“We rushed to the site on receiving the news of the killings but the accused had fled when we got there,” Ahmad told The Express Tribune. He said a case had been registered on the complaint of Nisar Ahmad, a brother of Ghaffar.

“A police team has been formed to trace and arrest the accused,” he said.
