Whole grain: Flour to be sold at Rs36 per kg during the holy month

A subsidy of Rs3 billion has been provided on wheat for the current financial year.

The price of flour has been fixed at Rs36 per kilogramme (kg) for the entire month of Ramazan, announced Sindh Food Minister Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar while talking to reporters at his office on Thursday.


The initiative has been taken to provide relief to the people of Sindh during the holy month, he added. All flour mills will establish fair-price shops at their main gates where flour will be sold at the fixed price, he said. Besides this, the mills will also provide flour at the fixed rate at the stalls established by the district administration.

The minister said that the price was decided in a meeting held on Wednesday which was attended by Sindh Food Department officials and the office-bearers of Flour Mills Association.

‘A subsidy of Rs3 billion has been provided on wheat for the current financial year, and the growers and common consumers will benefit from it,’ he said.

According to the minister, all of the commissioners had been issued directives to ensure the sale of flour at Rs36 per kg in bachat bazaars and Sunday bazaars. Moreover, the deputy commissioners had been directed to provide a list of the bachat bazaars being organised in their districts, and coordinate with the food officers, he said.
