On the occasion of 61st birthday of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, 28,300 blood bags were donated by Pakistan Peoples Party supporters during a three-day blood drive held in different parts of Sindh.
“The blood will be donated to those children in Sindh suffering from Thalassaemia and soldiers of the Pakistani Army,” said Peoples Doctors Forum provincial president senator Dr Karim Khuwaja.
Sharing the details during a press conference at the Karachi Press Club on Tuesday, Khuwaja said that the blood screening record will be sent to the officials of the Guinness World Records for the ‘Most Unique Blood Drive’.
Khuwaja said that an event will also be organised at the Expo Centre on June 27. “The blood to 2,000 children with Thalassaemia will be transfused [at the event],” he said, adding that 3,000 more children in other districts, including Badin, Sukkur and Shaheed Benazirabad will also be given blood bags.
