Fake Birth Record: ‘Papers forged to withdraw money’

The court sought comments from the department director.

LAHORE:
An additional district and sessions judge on Tuesday sought comments from the Anti-Corruption Department in a petition seeking action against government staff for allegedly forging birth certificates. In his petition, Ahmed Shahbaz Butt claimed that his in-laws had prepared forged records in an effort to withdraw money from the bank account of his late wife. He said that he had married Nazia Bibi in October 2011 and she was murdered in April 2012. Ahmed Shahbaz Butt said that they had no children. “There are Rs4.5 million in various bank accounts that my wife had maintained. My brother-in-law and mother-in-law bribed the Iqbal Town Union Council 111 secretary and got three birth certificates of children and entered my wife’s name as their mother,” the petitioner alleged. Ahmed Shahbaz Butt said that he had earlier informed the Anti-Corruption Department about the issue but no action had been taken. He requested the court to direct the anti-corruption authorities to register cases against five nominated suspects, who he accused of being involved in forging the record. The court sought comments from the department director.
