Environmentalists have urged people to use biodegradable products and discourage non-biodegradable shopping bags to ensure a pollution-free environment.
Speaking at a seminar on Saturday, they said plastic shopping bags can lie or float around for decades, polluting the environment.
“This form of pollution can be controlled by using the recently introduced d2w oxo-biodegradable plastic,” Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Director General Chaudhry Abdul Qayyum said.
He also announced a drive would be launched against environmental pollution in collaboration with environment-friendly multinational companies in all districts of AJK.
EPA Director Dr Aurangzeb, Mirpur Deputy Director Sardar Idrees Mahmood and Raja Riazwanullah Khan, an environmental expert from the Mirpur University of Science and Technology, also spoke at the seminar.
