Tragic: MQM lawmaker laid to rest

MQM General Secretary Advocate Rana Ashraf said this was a target killing and demanded that the murderers be arrested.

Lawmaker Tahira Asif of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement succumbed to her injuries at Shaikh Zayed Hospital on Thursday night. She was laid to rest on Friday.


The funeral prayer was offered at the federal lodges. She was buried in her ancestral Shah Kamal graveyard in Rehmanpura, Ichhra.


MQM Rabita Committee Deputy Convener Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Bilal Yaseen and Malik Pervez, Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf’s Mehmoodur Rasheed, Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid’s Seemal Kamran and Majida Zedi and Shaukat Basra of Pakistan Peoples Party attended the funeral. The soyem of the departed soul will be held at her residence after Asr prayers on Saturday (today).

Tahira Asif was attacked by two unidentified men in Allama Iqbal Town on Wednesday. She was taken to a hospital for treatment but passed away on Thursday night.

Police said she was in her car with her 25-year-old daughter and a handicapped servant buying fruit from a vendor near Moon Market, Iqbal Town. As she got out of the car, two men on a motorcycle whose faces were covered stopped her and tried to rob her. They snatched a gold necklace from her and shot her when she tried to resist them.
