Mainstreaming: Inclusive socioeconomic development linked to women’s participation
President lauds role being played by the NCSW in examining and reviewing existing laws.

President Mamnoon Hussain said on Thursday that the goal of inclusive socioeconomic development will remain elusive till women are brought into the national mainstream.
The president expressed these views while talking to a delegation headed by Chairperson National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) Khawar Mumtaz here at Aiwan-e-Sadr.
Hussain lauded the role being played by the NCSW in examining and reviewing existing laws and policies for their implementation according to international obligations.
He said the government was committed to the welfare of women and taking measures for their socioeconomic empowerment, safeguarding their rights and ensuring equal opportunities for them. The president said that allocation of 50 per cent share for women under the Prime Minister’s Youth Loan Scheme clearly reflected the government’s commitment towards providing women maximum opportunities to grow and excel in every walk of life. He said that the country’s women possessed great talent and had won laurels for the nation and the country.
Hussain said the potential and talent of the women was needed to be harnessed for the nation-building process.
He said that all segments of society needed to join hands for the cause of ensuring complete protection of the women’s rights.
Being a signatory to the Convention on Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, Pakistan was committed to implementing its provisions in true spirit, he said.
Mumtaz briefed the president about various activities of the commission towards ensuring women’s development, gender equality, redressal of the issues.
She said that the commission was actively engaged with various segments of society including national as well as international NGOs, experts and individuals to promote greater awareness about women’s issues.
The president assured NCSW chairperson of every possible support towards creating enabling environment for the women and their empowerment. The delegation included executive committee members Kishwer Naheed, Tanveer Jahan and Riffat Butt.
