Disaster preparedness: Training session under way in Gilgit

Community volunteers from various valleys of Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) on Thursday received training on how to respond to natural disasters, which have been gaining frequency in the mountainous region. The session, organised by G-B Pakistan Red Crescent Society (PRCS) and International Federation of Red Cross, provided training on disaster preparedness and response. “We have helped more than 100,000 victims of various disasters so far,” said PRCS Provincial Secretary Noorul Ain while addressing the opening ceremony of the two-day training session in Gilgit. She said so far, the society has developed a disaster response team consisting of 75 trained male and female volunteers.
