LAHORE:

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s chairman vowed on Wednesday to come out on roads and support Pakistan Awami Tehreek against what he called “the fascism of the present government”.

Condemning the attack on PAT workers on Tuesday, Imran Khan said that instead of doing its duty impartially, Punjab police has become a wing of the PML-N.

Imran claimed that the government had taken the step only to terrorise workers who intended to gather to welcome the PAT chief Dr Tahirul Qadri. The PAT leader is due to return to Pakistan on June 23.

“Acts of such brutality where women were shot weren’t even carried out during the time dictators ruled the country,” Imran said while talking to the media outside Minhajul Quran’s Secretariat in Model Town, Lahore.

Questioning the role of the police the PTI chief asked why the police tried to remove the barricades, which were constructed on orders from the Lahore High Court at the request of the police superintendent. “I am astonished why the chief minister has not resigned yet over this negligence which took the lives of 11 PAT activists.”

Imran dismissed Shahbaz Sharif’s claims of not being aware of the operation as a joke. He said that all the TV channels covered the operation live and it was impossible for the police to carry out such an operation without permission from higher-ups.

“Dismissing police officials is not enough. Instead the government should put Punjab’s Law Minister Rana Sanaullah, who was the mastermind behind the attack, behind bars,” Imran maintained.

“When PTI protested against election rigging the government accused us of trying to derail democracy but how can this brutality not hurt democracy?” he questioned.

Imran alleged that using police for political victimisation was a style introduced by the PML-N, the practice of which has ruined the credibility of the police force.  Imran announced that he along with his leadership will meet the PAT chief upon his return to Pakistan and join hands with the party against all the crimes committed by the government.

Rejecting the judicial commission formed by the provincial government, he said, “I condemn the FIR against Hussain Qadri, an act which has proved that the PML-N is a fascist party”.
