Religious scholars and academics at a workshop urged Ulema to play role in promotion of tolerance and harmony in the society.

The workshop on “Role of Ulema in promotion of tolerance and harmony” was organised by the International Islamic University’s Shariah Academy here on Wednesday.

IIUI President Dr Ahmed Yousif Al-Draiweesh while addressing the workshop as chief guest said tolerance and moderation are the panacea to the prevailing problems being faced by Muslim world.

“Difference of opinion is possible but the way of handling such state is crucial and it must be dealt with in accordance with the teachings of Islam instead of being violent and rigid,” he added.

He termed the workshop as a positive step towards promotion of tolerance and he also stressed on Ulema to disseminate Islam’s message of peace and harmony.

While explaining the objectives of the workshop, Dr Tahir Mansoori said there are numerous examples of tolerance in the matters of Fiqh in Muslims history. To be rigid and observe things through the lens of extremism is not an appropriate attitude, he added.
