Hong Xu Dong was kidnapped near Kulachi Mur in the Daraban area on the road from DI Khan to Zhob in Balochistan on May 19. He was reportedly travelling on bicycle towards Zhob.
While it is not clear which Taliban group Sher Ali is affiliated with, a kidnappers group led by Amin Khan Malang is said to have assisted in the kidnapping.
Earlier TTP Senior Commander Abdullah Bahar confirmed to the media that they held the tourist.
“He is now in our hands and this is an act of our fighters,” Bahar had said, adding, “We demand the release of our prisoners in government custody.”
According to an intelligence report, police in DI Khan have finalised preparations for a large scale operation to recover the tourist.

@Asim: Honestly, such outlandish conspiracy theories would not even occur to us Indians. - even if we were trying to masquerade as Pakistanis. But hey, if you can blame India for Indian made injections which have been legally imported by Pakistani chemists and sold legally in Pakistan - then surely you can blame us for the absurd comment that your fellow Pakistanis write?
@unbelievable: There was a similar event 3 weeks back when another Chinese was kidnapped. Did not trigger anything. Just as whipping of the Swat girl led to backlash which precipitated the Swat operation but later when Malala was shot, the TTP supporters in Pakistan pulled out all stops to discredit her as a CIA agent so that there would be no backlash.
@Umer: Another wolf in sheep's clothing. Spare us your Indian tactics of posting as a disgruntled Pakistani. You folks try to be sly but its so easy to figure out your machinations.
People forget that kidnapping Chinese alleged prostitutes was an event that kicked off the attack on the Red Mosque ---- maybe this will be he event that starts the N Waziristan campaign?
Some of you must be out of your minds while thinking that Chinese are surveying our minerals. Do you think, they will find minerals, extract them and go away with them in their pockets. Are they in such a desperate need to do this. Foolish people should restrain from making unqualified comments.
@Umer Well said n excellently worded. It's absolutely rediclouis to say this Chinese tourist was just riding bicycle middle of nowhere, same goes for other chines looking for gold etc. Government n establishment needs to clearly advise Chinese government to educate their tourist before visiting other countries. Friendship, love bla bla bla on one side allowing Chinese agents to look n verify minerals under ground is another. Their such habits are well know globally. Punjab CM (from Kashmiri minority) should take note of Chinese activities n put end to it.
China has pursuing natural resources for its growing economy. It has deals in Africa and South America. It just struck a giant deal with Russia for natural gas. The "tourist" might be an agent sizing up future deals. There is no friendship in international relations each nation pursues its own interests.
Let's not blindly say Chinese are our friends. Enough of this charade. Open your eyes. Everyone is looking after their own interest. Chinese have figured that Punjabis are gullible, so they bud in doing what they want to do unhindered. Chinese are acting like another East India company and we are stupid now as we were stupid then.
I doubt it was a tourist. What is a Chinese tourist doing in D I Khan? This is some other game going on. Chinese are surveying Pakistan covertly for minerals. Only the other day a bunch of Chinese were captured with instruments trying to find gold. We should be careful of these Chinese "tourists".
The Chinese tourist must be released at any cost, as China is the only friend of Pakistan now.. If he is tourist, why the Tourist ministry or any organization, not brief him at the time of his entry in Pakistan, where to go ,where to not go.. Any body must take responsibility to avoid same incident in future..
Pakistan would never opt to use "made in Pakistan " weapons in India, nor would India do an activity with "made in India " weapons, if at all any one is determined for any terrorist activity, how is it possible that a sincere terrorist accepts that he is taliban, or a sensible official would dare take name of terrorist organization, the terrorist would not belong to an organization and the official must have got some handsome attractions for spreading "terrorism " ,virtual tags made by puppets on heavy investments.
On the other hand "what the he'll this tourist was doing in that area anyway". Can't he find a better place. Chinese needs to think as well, they are our guests but that doesn't mean go into "no go area" n create mess from themselves n authorities.
