Clean cities: ‘Garbage collection drive has begun’

FWMC was monitoring waste sites and collecting garbage regularly, says MD.

FAISALABAD:

Faisalabad Waste Management Company Managing Director Amjad Ali Awan on Thursday said waste workers had collecting over 50,000 tons waste from 670 sites in the city.

He said a mechanism had been devised to remove garbage heaps from the city.

He said the FWMC was monitoring waste sites and collecting garbage regularly.

He said public campaigns would be run in several union councils to raise awareness about waste management.

He said the company’s garbage removal capacity had increased from 26 per cent to 45 per cent and tenders had been issued to overcome shortage of equipment.

He said 1,000 more waste workers would be hired this year. He said nearly 400 waste bins had been installed in selected areas of the city. He said the Faisalabad Waste Management Company had requested more funds from the Finance Department to expand its waste disposal programme.
