Five minors lose lives as house collapses in Rawalpindi

Three more children were injured, two are reportedly in critical condition.

RAWALPINDI: Five minors died and three were injured when a house in Dhoke Lalyal area of Rawalpindi collapsed while they were asleep inside, Express News reported on Wednesday.

Two of the children died on the spot while three more succumbed to their injuries upon arrival at Benazir Bhutto Hospital (BBH) in the city.

Rescue 1122 confirmed the death of five minors who were between two and seven years of age. Two of the injured are reportedly in critical condition.

The victims' families have started arriving at the hospital.

Previous incidents

On May 30, six children were injured after the ceiling of a room of a tuition centre collapsed in Humak Model Town in Islamabad. Some 35 children were taking classes in other rooms at the time.

People from the neighbourhood gathered at the scene and called up the Rescue 1122. However, by the time the rescue reams arrived the crowd has cleared the debris and rescued all the children.

On May 12, a house in Mianwali collapsed, killing three people and injuring another. Rescue 1122 officials said workers were digging for the construction of a plaza when a neighbouring house collapsed as a result of the excavation.

They said Shamim Masih and her two granddaughters Aliza and Sahana were buried under the rubble. Rescue 1122 officials dug them out and took them to the DHQ hospital where they died.
