KARACHI:
Sindh chief minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has criticised the federal government for not consulting him in the wake of the attack on the Karachi airport.
He was addressing a press conference at CM House on Monday. “I was present at the airport throughout the night, but the interior minister Chaudhary Nisar did not contact me even once,” he lamented. “Even today, I was not invited to the law and order meeting at the airport.”
The chief minister was of the opinion that the attack at the airport was in retaliation to the provincial government’s targeted operation against the militants. “The Taliban have often complained to the federal government’s negotiating team about the Sindh government’s strong action against them.” CM Shah added that he had witnessed firsthand how the security forces had fought the assailants to protect the sensitive installations at the airport. He added that the airport security was the responsibility of the federal government, but they were ready to give full support if needed.
On the other hand, Sindh information minister Sharjeel Memon blamed the federal government for being irresponsible, claiming that the provincial government was not informed about any threats to airports. Meanwhile, the CM has announced compensation of Rs2 million for the deceased Rangers personnel, Rs1 million for each of the deceased Airport Security Force personnel and Rs0.1 million for each of the injured.
