Precautions: Civic body yet to finalise anti-dengue plans
Health directorate tasked with evolving plan of action to avert threat.
ISLAMABAD:
High-ups at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) have stressed the need for finalising anti-dengue measures at the earliest to prevent an outbreak in the capital.
CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal has ordered the health directorate to collaborate with other departments and evolve a comprehensive plan of action to avert the potential spread of the virus.
CDA Administration Member Amir Ali Ahmad held a meeting with senior officials from CDA Hospital and the health services, sanitation, enforcement and environment directorates of the authority to devise an anti-dengue strategy.
The meeting concluded that steps including a public awareness drive, identification of potential dengue breeding sites in the city and fumigation should be finalised at the earliest.
The meeting was informed that due to climatic variations, dengue larva are not confined to any particular season and the administration should be prepared all year.
Amir Ali said comprehensive anti-dengue drives by the civic agency minimised the threat in previous years. “Our achievement of making Islamabad a dengue-free city should further strengthen our resolve to continue the fight against dengue,” Amir said.
Officials claimed at the meeting that the civic authority is prepared to tackle the disease threat in the monsoon season.
The CDA has been conducting mapping, fumigation and anti-dengue awareness drives over the last few years. This year, as many as 500 banners inscribed with anti-dengue literature were displayed around the city and more than 200,000 pamphlets have been distributed.
Ahmad also directed the sanitation, environment and water supply directorates to ensure cleanliness, maintenance of sewerage and water supply lines, and cutting of wild shrubs.
He said the high-ups of directorates should provide proper training to staffers who will be conducting anti-dengue drives.
The CDA member administration also asked the enforcement directorate to keep watch on tyre shops in the city and take action against violators.
