BALAKOT:

Eyewitnesses told journalists on Sunday that they had seen the bodies of a man and a child floating in Kunhar River near Shohal village, some five kilometres downstream from where a Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) leader and a child drowned last week.

“I saw the body of a bearded man and a boy and informed JI rescue worker, Kamran”, claimed Fareed, a resident of Shohal.  Confirming the report, Kamran said he and other rescue workers reached the spot when they learnt of the news and saw JI leader Nasrullah Shaji’s body floating in the river and also that of a young boy, but could not confirm if it was Sufiyan’s, the 10th grader who drowned with him.

Kamran told newsmen when his team members entered the river to retrieve the remains, the heavy flow of water prevented them from getting close after which the bodies disappeared. However, police officials have rebutted the claim saying the body seen floating was that of a girl who committed suicide on Saturday evening.
