PESHAWAR:
The next two months are important for the country’s political setup, marking a new direction for the country’s politics.
This was stated by the provincial president of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Azam Swati, while addressing a workers convention at Sarhad Garden in the provincial capital on Sunday.
Calling the federal government “fake”, Swati said the PTI leadership has asked the judiciary to deliver justice after last year’s “rigged” elections. Failure to do so would force party workers to take to the streets; the next episode will be held at the federal capital, warned Swati.
“If you do not listen to our demands against this fabricated government, the nation will collectively march towards Islamabad,” said Swati.
In addition to PTI Peshawar President Yaseen Khalil, MPAs Arif Yousaf, Shaukat Yousafzai, Zareen Zia and other leaders were present on the occasion.
However, the convention seemed to be more of a show of support for recently-sacked cabinet member Yaseen Khalil, who was let go over what was termed ‘bad performance’.
Khalil, however, said he was not interested in any portfolio and his speech against the chief minister was only meant to compel him to make all the charges against Khalil public.
“I spent all my life with Pakistan Peoples Party, but I joined PTI because I believed in Imran Khan’s vision,” he said. A monitoring committee is being formed to investigate the facts behind my sacking, Khalil shared.
According to Yousafzai, they had been loyal party workers for the last 18 years and those who thought his performance was ‘poor’ should compare the current situation of the health department with his tenure as health minister.
Earlier, local leaders criticised PTI lawmakers for not addressing the problems of their constituents and told Swati to bring the issue into the central leadership’s notice.
