Law and order: Citizens protest police inaction
The protestors staged a sit-in at Zila Council Chowk in front of the city district government secretariat.
FAISALABAD:
Over three dozen people of Chak 75-RB on Saturday protested against Khurarianwala police for failing to take action against a robbery gang.
The protestors staged a sit-in at Zila Council Chowk in front of the city district government secretariat.
Holding posters and placards, the protestors chanted slogans against the police and blocked University Road.
Noor Ahmad, one of the protestors, told newsmen that six armed robbers had broken into Shaukat Ali’s house in Chak No75-RB on Monday night.
He said they took away cash, gold jewellery and other valuable items.
He said they also beat the inmates and broke Ali’s leg when he resisted.
“We reported the incident to Khurarianwala police and sought action against the robbers and recovery of the stolen items,” he said.
He said some police officials had asked for bribes which they had refused to pay.
He said since then, the police had ignored the case so that there had been no progress in the investigation.
Civil Lines Deputy Superintendent Police (DSP) Mian Khan Mohal met the protestors and assured them that the robbers would be arrested soon.
The protestors then dispersed peacefully.
