The participants were carrying placards and distributed pamphlets to raise awareness regarding environment issues.
The walk at Shaukat Khanum Chowk was led by PHA Director General Muhammad Shakeel Ahmad. A large number of students from the University of the Punjab, Lahore College for Women University, KIPS School System and several other educational institutions participated in the walk to highlight the importance of protecting the environment. Some of the students were deployed at traffic signals with instructions to issue symbolic challans to those who littered the road.
The walk from the Canal Bridge to the Jallo Park gate was led by PHA Zonal Director Muhammad Niaz.
Over 250 people were ‘challans’ for littering.
PHA DG Shakeel Ahmed said that the purpose the walks was to raise awareness on significance of the day and how one could contribute to preservation of the environment. He said it was important to keep urban areas clean.
LWMC spokesperson Raza Khan said the company’s waste management strategy was in compliance with international standards and was helping maintain a clean and safe environment in the city.
