PESHAWAR:
Chief Minister (CM) Pervez Khattak said his government has increased the police budget by 70% and revolutionary steps are being taken to make Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) a safe province.

The provincial chief executive was addressing a ceremony at Malik Saad Shaheed Police Lines on Wednesday, marking the handover of 19 police department buses to educational institutes.

Khattak said the entire province was proud of the sacrifices rendered by the police force in the war on terror.

His government has ended political interference in the police and other departments to ensure good governance and transparency, added the CM. Political interference in government departments is the ‘mother of all evils’ and its curtailment had allowed the police to become a truly professional force, remarked Khattak.

“We are now focusing on legislation and positive steps in this regard will soon be visible.”

The CM, however, added the “filth of several decades” could not be cleared overnight.

“Let me tell you that the people of this province did not vote for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to build mega projects. They only wanted a change and we are taking every step to this end,” he claimed. Other government departments should also improve their performance, said Khattak.

Addressing the ceremony, Additional IGP Headquarters Mian Asif said the police have set a precedent by donating 19 of its buses to the government to be used by educational institutes. “It is an example we set after rendering other sacrifices,” he said.

The 19 buses were purchased in 2008 but could not be used due to deteriorating law and order in K-P and it was thus decided to hand them over to the government for use as transport vehicles for educational institutes.
