PAF plane crash: Funeral of pilot in Attock today

The plane was flying on a routine operational training mission and apparently crashed because of a technical failure.

PAF Squadron Leader Umair Elahi, one of the two pilots killed in a plane crash on Tuesday, will be laid to rest at 10am on Wednesday morning at New Graveyard in Attock city.


The deceased was the son of a local businessman, Sheikh Anwar Ahmed, a resident of Darussalam Colony, Attock.

The PAF will provide compensation for the loss of life, property and medical expenses of the deceased, it has maintained.

A board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the accident, it added.


In a press release, the PAF Directorate of Media Affairs reported the crash of the fighter aircraft near Baldia Town, Karachi.

The plane was flying on a routine operational training mission and apparently crashed because of a technical failure.

Fire tenders and ambulances were immediately dispatched for relief and rescue operations at the site of the crash.

Elahi and Wing Commander Khurram Sammad were pronounced dead on the spot.

Upon receiving news of the crash, relatives and local people gathered at the houses of the deceased to offer their condolences.
