NZ crush South Africa 5-0 in World Cup

Hayward scores hat-trick in Kiwis’ win at hockey mega event.

KARACHI:
New Zealand thrashed South Africa 5-0 in the 2014 Hockey World Cup men’s competition in The Hague, to stay ahead in Pool B on Tuesday.

New Zealand took an early lead with Marcus Child’s goal in the fourth minute of the match, while Andy Hayward doubled the score in the 15th minute and then went onto strike another goal two minutes later. Shea Mcaleese contributed to the team’s win in the 52nd
minute while Hayward made his hat-trick two minutes later.


New Zealand now have six points after winning two matches in Pool B, while South Africa continue as the weakest side in the competition. Meanwhile, Argentina defeated Germany 1-0 in another Pool B match.

In the women’s competition, Germany crushed South Africa 3-1 while England lost to China 3-0.
