Gold heist: Robbers pocket Rs3.5m in gold, cash

RAWALPINDI: A gang of three robbers on Monday stormed into a jewellery shop in Civic Center, Gulzar-e-Quaid and made off with cash and gold worth million of rupees. The area falls within the limits of Airport Police Station. According to sources, a gang of three robbers armed with guns entered Rana Rehman Jewellers at 2:15pm and held the staff hostage. They managed to take 875 grams of gold worth around Rs3.26 million and Rs475,000 cash before fleeing. A case was registered by the Airport police. Sub Inspector Muhammad Sajjad, who is investigating the robbery, confirmed the incident but did not give the details of the stolen goods. He said that it was not a huge robbery and only “a few items of jewellery” and “some” cash were taken. “The owner of the shop is estimating the loss, he suffered in the robbery, and will provide the details to us later,” he said.
