KARACHI:

The bodies of seven men, who had been abducted earlier, were found from the outskirts of the city on Sunday. Separately, two members of the Shia community and a police officer were among four people shot dead in separate acts of target killings and violence on Monday.

At around 7:45am, Manghopir police were informed about the presence of the bodies by volunteers of the Chhipa Welfare Trust. “The bodies had been dumped in the deserted area between Ghazi Goth and MPR Colony,” a volunteer of Chhipa Welfare Trust, Asif Khan, told The Express Tribune. “The assailants must have shot them one by one at the site.” All the victims were wearing shalwar kameez and were aged between 20 and 40 years, he added.

The police shifted the bodies to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for autopsies and later moved them to Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth. The officials have found CNICs on three of the victims, which showed that the three men, Shoaib Khan, Yousuf and Khan Saeed, hailed from Swat.

Two other victims, identified as Irshad Kashmiri and Nasir Kashmiri, are believed to be associated with the Lyari gang war. Irshad was reported to be the brother of slain Lyari gangster, Rashid Rekha, while Nasir was associated with the Sheraz Comrade group.

“The bodies bear signs of torture and were shot in the head,” DSP Shaukat Shahani told The Express Tribune. “It seems these people were kidnapped and then shot dead.” DSP Shahani added that the assailants had brought the victims to the abandoned site and later shot them dead. However, the police did not find any vehicle tracks close to the site.

SHO Ghulam Fareed revealed that a 9mm pistol was used in the incident, referring to the discovering of at least nine empty shells from the crime scene. The shells will be sent to the forensic laboratory for examination.

According to sources, the victims were affiliated with a militant outfit. Police officials have, however, neither confirmed nor denied the claim. A case has been registered against unidentified persons on behalf of the state.

Killings

In a separate incident, two members of the Shia community, Ahmed Ali Zaidi, 35, son of Abid Ali Zaidi, and Sajid Ali Jafri, 58, were shot dead while another, identified as Imtiaz Hussain, was wounded, in separate targeted attacks in Liaquatabad, Azizabad and Rizvia Town, respectively.

The incidents occurred a few hours after the Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) ended its protest against sectarian killings and attacks after successful negotiations with the provincial government. “These target killings of our community members will not stop because the government and law enforcement agencies are not taking the matter seriously,” lamented the MWM spokesperson.

Separately, a police sub-inspector, Saleem Yasin Rajput, 58, was shot dead in an act of target killing in Korangi. The deceased was posted at PIB Colony police station and a resident of Sherpao Colony. He was on his way to work when armed motorcyclists shot and killed him.

In another incident, Amir alias Shehzad, 25, son of Muhammad Arif, was shot dead near Aath Chowk in Lyari within Kalakot police remits. SHO Haji Sanaullah said that deceased was shot and killed by his cousin, Asif Ismail, over personal enmity.

Elsewhere, a police constable, Riaz Hussain, was shot and injured near Hassan Square within New Town police limits.

Meanwhile, the bodies of three men who have yet to be identified were found separately from Pak Colony, Korangi and Ibrahim Hyderi. Police officials claimed that the deceased were drug addicts and died of natural causes.
