KARACHI:

A delay in the issuance of the Netherlands visas to the Pakistan veteran’s team, which is to take part in the Masters World Cup Hockey, has upset the players’ plans to travel.

“Despite our best efforts and requests to Dutch official Alexander Baker, visas by the Dutch embassy have still not been issued,” said Pakistan Veterans Hockey Club Secretary and manager-cum-coach Islahuddin Siddiqui on Monday. According to him, all the documents had been submitted to the Netherlands 10-12 days ago. Pakistan were supposed to depart for Rotterdam on Monday night, with their opening match scheduled for Thursday.

Meanwhile, on day two of the ongoing 2014 Hockey World Cup, Australia triumphed in both the men’s and women’s Pool A fixtures. The men’s team outplayed Spain 3-0, whereas the women’s side triumphed over Japan 3-2.
