JAMRUD:
An alleged kidnapper was killed and an abducted person recovered by khasadar officials in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber Agency Sunday afternoon.
Rosham Mehsud, an official of the Jamrud political administration, said a khasadar official on duty at Wazir Dhand area in Regi Model Town on the boundary of Jamrud and Peshawar signalled for a car to stop but its driver sped away. Khasadar officials then chased the car and were fired on by men inside the vehicle after which they returned fire, said Mehsud, adding a few moments later the car overturned.
By the time khasadar officials reached the car, three unidentified men had managed to escape, leaving behind the injured driver and a man tied at the back seat.
The man was identified as 27-year-old Hikmat Afridi. Afridi told the officials he was playing cricket near Jamrud Bazaar when four men abducted him and were taking him to an undisclosed place when the khasadar officials intervened.
Mehsud said the injured driver, identified as Saleem Afridi, a resident of Qamber Khel area of Khyber Agency, later died of his wounds.
A case was filed and further investigation is under way.
