A jirga convened near Ghotki on Friday evening settled a long-standing dispute between the Jagirani and Chachar clansmen. The clans were at war for the last 22 years and armed clashes had claimed more than 20 lives and left several others injured. The jirga was jointly chaired by Pakistan Peoples Party MPA Abid Sundrani, Bakhtiar Chachar and Syed Bashir Shah.
After hearing the grievances from both the parties, the jirga found the Jagirani tribesmen guilty of killing two Chachar tribesmen and injuring three others. They were fined Rs1.7 million. The Chachar tribe was fined Rs600,000 for killing a member of the Jagirani tribe. Both the parties accepted the verdict and promised to pay the fine in three installments. In 1992, the war between two gangs of bandits had developed into a feud between the Chachar and Jagirani tribes.
