Show-cause: Absent from PIMS, on duty in Saudi Arabia
Inquiry ongoing against doctor, nurse who took unapproved leave .

Final show-cause notices have been issued to two officials of the Mother and Child Healthcare Centre (MCHC) at the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) for misconduct and absence from duty.
MCHC Anaesthesia Department Senior Registrar Dr Safdar Ali has been working as a specialist at a hospital in Saudi Arabia in violation of service rules, while Anis Fatima, a charge nurse, availed a 26-month-long ex-Pakistan leave without approval from July 2011 to Sept 2013 and received full pay during the period.
Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Secretary Faridullah Khan served final show-cause notices on both officials through newspapers on Wednesday.
Dr Safdar Ali was granted 120 days leave with full pay from Feb 10, 2011, to June 9, 2011. But on June 10, 2011, he did not report for duty or inform the hospital of the same.
An explanation was called and Dr Ali was told to report for duty on July 12, 2011, and again on Nov 27, 2012, but he failed to do so. CADD served a show-cause notice on him on Jan 31, 2013, but received no reply.
Dr Ali submitted a reply when the notice was published in newspapers on April 13, 2013. The CADD secretary approved his reply, treating his absence from June 10, 2011 to May 1, 2013 as unpaid leave and also granting him an extension in leave for a further six months as well as 91 days extraordinary leave without pay from May 2, 2013 to Jan 31, 2014.
He was due to rejoin Pims on Feb 1, 2014, but still has not reported in.
Meanwhile, MCHC Director Dr Zahid Larik had issued a show-cause notice to charge nurse Anis Fatima for availing ex-Pakistan leave from July 1, 2011, to Sept 29, 2013, without any notification, while also receiving full pay during the 26 months.
A disciplinary inquiry against her was started after she was issued a charge sheet. Fatima submitted her resignation on March 4, 2014, which was not accepted because of the ongoing inquiry. Despite a number of notices, she did not report for work, neither did she appear before the inquiry committee.
The final show-cause notices have given both officials 15 days to submit a written reply and explain why they should not be removed from service.
CADD spokesman Rafique Tahir confirmed the issuance of final show-cause notices. “In case they don’t reply within 15 days of the issuance of these notices, both will be removed from service and departmental action will be against them,” he added.
