Targeted attack: Off-duty policeman shot dead

A case was filed against unidentified militants and further investigation is under way.

The DSP said the deceased’s body was taken to Topi Civil Hospital for an autopsy.

A police official was gunned down by unidentified militants in Malikabad area of Swabi on Saturday.



Topi circle DSP Mushtaq Khan said the incident occurred early morning, explaining that Syed Laiq, a sub-inspector deployed at Mardan Police Lines, was in his hometown on leave. The official informed that Laiq’s father, Rahman Sher, told the police his son went for morning prayers to the mosque and was shot dead by unidentified men close to his house while returning home.


The DSP said the deceased’s body was taken to Topi Civil Hospital for an autopsy while a heavy contingent of police rushed to the area and blocked all entry and exit routes. A search operation was also launched in the vicinity but no one was arrested. The deceased official was buried with a complete guard of honour in his hometown.
