ISLAMABAD:
Islamabad has again assured London of its cooperation in the investigation of the Dr Imran Farooq murder case.
Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan conveyed the assurance during his meeting with the UK High Commissioner in Islamabad Philip Barton.
“Expressing his views on Imran Farooq murder case, the minister said that Pakistan will fulfill all international obligations as required under the law,” a spokesman for the interior ministry said.
UK’s Metropolitan police recently published pictures of two suspects in the case. Earlier this year, Britain demanded access to the two suspects who fled the country immediately after Imran Farooq, a central MQM leader, was murdered in London.
Some reports suggested that both the suspects were arrested immediately after they landed in Karachi. Pakistani authorities claim that there is no record that these suspects were taken into custody.
It is not clear if the high commissioner demanded access to the suspects once again during Friday’s meeting. He clarified, however, that the UK government has no role in the case.
“The high commissioner emphasised that contrary to what is being propagated in certain sections of Pakistan, the government of Great Britain has absolutely no role in the case.
The courts and Metropolitan police in the UK are independent in ongoing investigation and its scope,” the official press statement issued by the ministry said.
