School principal among five gunned down in Karachi on Friday
JSMM leader shot dead on his way to GM Syed’s hometown.
HYDERABAD/KARACHI:
A school principal was among five people shot dead on Friday in Karachi.
The principal, a man identified 45-year-old Syed Farhan Shah, was gunned down outside the London Berg Grammar School located in Block-3, Nazimabad. The incident took place at around 1:05pm when Shah was walking towards his Toyota Corolla to go back to his residence in Block-I, Nazimabad. Shah’s children were also sitting in the car when the incident took place. They remained unhurt.
The police said that at least two unidentified men on a motorcycle were behind the incident. The assailants were waiting for the principal at the scene of crime and shot at him twice, killing him on the spot. Shah was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
Nazimabad police said the deceased was the principal and owner of the school. SHO Ejaz Lodhi claimed the deceased was also a spiritual faith healer and used to run an ‘Aastana’ at his residence. “The initial investigation suggests that it was not an extortion case but a sectarian one.”
The police claim that they recovered two empty bullet shells which will be sent to the forensic division while further investigation is underway.
In an unrelated incident, 30-year-old Adil Younus who used to run a gym was shot dead in Wahid Colony, North Nazimabad. The police said that he was killed over a personal enmity. SHO Nawaz Gondal said that they had managed to arrest a suspect, a man identified as Azeem Aziz.
In Lyari, the mother of four children was killed near Niazi Chowk within the limits of Kalri police station. The police said that deceased was killed by her relative, a man identified as Sajid, over a family dispute. They added that the accused escaped after killing the victim.
The bodies of two young men were found from Ijtima Gah Road within the limits of Manghopir police station. According to initial investigation, said SHO Aslam Shah, both men were kidnapped and then killed. He claimed that the men were tortured and shot at multiple times. He added that the police found at least 16 empty bullets shells at the scene of crime.
JSMM leader killed
A leader of the banned Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz was found dead on Thursday night on the National Highway near Bhan Saeedabad, Dadu.
Muneer Choliani, 40, was allegedly kidnapped near Sehwan a few hours before his death. His wife, Mukhtiara Begum, said that they were on their way to Sann, the hometown of Jeay Sindh leader GM Syed, from Larkana, when they were stopped near Lakki Shah Saddar. “Unidentified men in three vehicles stopped us,” she said. “They started beating my husband and took him away in our car and left my daughter with me in the middle of the road.” His body was later found near Dadu with three bullets to the head.
Choliani was the uncle of another JSMM leader, Ruplo Choliani, who was killed in 2011. The party has announced three days of mourning for the leader. According to party sources, the police are raiding their homes in Dadu.
For the last 15 years, Choliani was wheel-chair bound after he was hit by a bullet in the backbone during a clash in Larkana. He was laid to rest in Sann near GM Syed’s grave on Friday evening. No FIR has been registered.
