Spinal cord pain: Ex-president taken to hospital
Pervez Musharraf was taken to PNS Shifa for a check-up after he had acute pain in his spinal cord, say officials.
KARACHI:
Former military ruler Gen (retd) Pervez Musharraf was taken to PNS Shifa for a check-up after he had acute pain in his spinal cord, officials told The Express Tribune on Thursday.
During his check-up, Musharraf also went through the physiotherapy and was kept under observation. He was discharged later in the night.
Officials said the doctors had recommended the former president receive immediate treatment, which is, however, not possible in Pakistan. They say that due to legal formalities it was not possible to shift him immediately to a hospital abroad.
It was also learnt that the doctors contacted surgeons of spinal cords in Dubai and also sent them his medical reports via email.
Security was beefed up around the hospital before his arrival and during his stay.
Musharraf reached Karachi on April 19 from Islamabad for his treatment due to a security risk in the capital city and has been staying here since. It was the second time that he had visited the hospital, while his doctors have been visiting him at his residence in Zamzama.
