Target killings: Police official among three shot dead in the city

KARACHI:
A police official was among three people killed in separate acts of target killings in the city on Wednesday.

A police constable was shot dead in an act of target killing near Abdullah College within the limits of Paposh Nagar police station. The deceased was identified as 40-year-old Syed Shahid Ali, son of Ataullah. He sustained bullet wounds in the head and chest and died on the spot. The body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for an autopsy. SHO Shaukat Awan said that the deceased was posted to the Security Zone II and was on his way to  report for duty from Orangi Town when unidentified motorcyclists shot and killed him. He leaves behind two daughters and a widow. Police officials found at least 10 empty shells of a 9mm pistol at the scene of crime.

A member of the Shia community was shot dead in an act of target killing in Nazimabad. The victim was identified as 30-year-old Sabih Abbas Zaidi. According to police officials, he was sitting at his general store when at least two unidentified motorcyclists opened fire at him. SHO Ejaz Lodhi said that the motive behind the incident could be sectarian.


Another member of the Shia community was shot dead within the limits of Gulberg police station. The deceased was identified as 28-year-old Hammad Raza Naqvi, son of Abbas Raza Naqvi. SHO Farooq Sanjrani said that victim’s father is the mutawalli of Qasr-e-Abu Talib Imambargah.

In another incident of target killing, 30-year-old Kamran, son of Ashiq Hussain, was shot dead in Orangi Town, within the limits of Mominabad police station. Police officials said that the deceased was a resident of Keamari and had come to Orangi Town to visit his relatives. The motive behind the murder could be personal enmity, the officials claimed.

Meanwhile, a member of the Shia community, who was injured in a targeted attack on Tuesday in Super Market, Liaquatabad, succumbed to his injuries during treatment on Wednesday.
