FIR lodged against ex-minister’s son
Balochistan Levies hold Shafiq Mengal responsible for Khuzdar check post attack.

A paramilitary unit deployed in Balochistan has lodged a first information report against a former minister’s son over his alleged involvement in the May 25 attack on its check post in Khuzdar district.
The assault led to the deaths of eight Balochistan Levies personnel. A case was registered against Shafiq Mengal, son of former federal minister Naseer Mengal, under sections 302/324/395/427/186/147/148/149 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and the Anti Terrorism Act (ATA), Section 2 (i) (vi) (xv) of Pakistan Protection Ordinance (PPO) 2013. Dozens of armed men, allegedly loyal to Mengal, had besieged a Levies check post on May 25 in Wadh tehsil of Khuzdar district in the early hours of the morning and launched a deadly gun attack in which eight Levies men were killed, Express News reported.
“The Levies personnel will try their best to arrest Shafiq Mengal at any cost, because he was responsible for destroying the peace in Khuzdar,” Home Secretary Akbar Durrani told The Express Tribune.
According to an official of the Balochistan Levies, Shafiq Mengal ordered hundreds of armed men to encircle his residence in Khuzdar to fend off any attempts to arrest him.
Baloch nationalists accuse Shafiq Mengal of running a death squad that targets nationalist leaders and activists. He is also allegedly involved in dumping bodies in the mass grave recently discovered from Tutak area of Khuzdar.
Mengal has refused to appear before the Judicial Commission which was formed to investigate the mass grave despite several notices. Home Secretary Akbar Durrani said Levies personnel, following the directives of Balochistan CM Dr Abdul Malik Baloch were taking action against those responsible for disturbing the peace of Khuzdar.
