The incident took place at around 10pm on Saturday night.
HYDERABAD:
Two policemen and a civilian were killed in an attack on the residence of a builder in Latifabad. The incident took place at around 10pm on Saturday night, within the limits of the Hussainabad police station.
Unidentified assailants fired shots at police constables, Abdul Sattar Solangi and Muhammad Safar Panhwar, and gardener Nasim Maseeh outside the bungalow of Javed Shaikh.
Solangi and Maseeh were taken to Bhitai Hospital in Latifabad and Panhwar was shifted to the Civil Hospital but all three passed away at the hospitals. Panhwar, who was posted at the Airport police station, had come to meet Solangi, Shaikh's police escort.
SP Hyder Raza said that the builder was being provided security on a court order. "We are investigating the threats that were given to the builder and the people behind it," claimed Raza. However, no arrest was made by Sunday evening. Shaikh could not be contacted for his side of the story.
According to SP Umer Tufail, the police have obtained CCTV footage from the camera installed at the bungalow's gate. The police, he added, are trying to identify the attackers from the footage.
The funeral prayers of the two policemen were performed at the police headquarters. Solangi, who leaves behind two sons and a daughter, was buried at his Machi goth village while the dead body of Panhwar, who leaves behind two sons, was sent to Matiari.
Five police constables have been killed and two injured in Hyderabad this month in four separate incidents. Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, issued a statement directing DIG Sanaullah Abbassi to submit a report in this regard to his office.
The CM also ordered the DIG to strengthen the police intelligence network and to increase patrolling in the district. "The police will not be cowed by such cowardly attacks," he said. "We will pursue the outlaws resolutely."
