Harassment: Protest against police brutality
a representative of the city police officer assured the protesters that strict action would be taken.
FAISALABAD:
Scores of residents of village 357-GB on Saturday staged a demonstration against the Rodala Road Station House Officer (SHO) for allegedly beating up women during police raids.
The protesters held banners and placards and held a sit-in in front of the city government secretariat. Ameer Ali, one of the protesters, told journalists that Rodala Road SHO Yousuf Shehzad had raided their house “looking for criminals” on Thursday. The police forcibly entered the house and manhandled the women, Ali said. Hearing the furore, neighbours gathered and the police fled, he alleged. The protesters demanded strict action against the SHO and the policemen who accompanied him. They blocked University Road for traffic and beat up some commuters who tried to pass through.
Raheel Ahmad, a representative of the city police officer, arrived at the scene and assured the protesters that strict action would be taken against the police officials responsible for the incident.
