Nawaz approves two new coal fired plants for Gadani

The plants will work in IPP mode while funds from PSDP will be allocated.

LAHORE:
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Saturday said that “attractive tariffs” for coal fired power plants have drawn various international investors to invest in power plants in Pakistan, as he accorded his approval for two new power plants to be built in Gadani.

Reviewing pace of work on Gadani power project in Lahore on Saturday, the premier also appreciated Chinese investment in the energy sector.

During the course of the meeting, Nawaz gave his approval for construction of two additional coal fired plants to be built by the government in Gadani in IPP mode. Funds for the projects will be allocated from PSDP.


Previously, Nawaz had been given a detailed briefing on the status of the project and was told that the feasibility study of the infrastructure would be completed by the end of next month.

Furthermore, he was told that the work on land leveling and grading on the site will start within the next three weeks and will be completed by August.

Similarly, jetty break water and allied infrastructure will be completed in 32 months.
