KARACHI:
Compressed natural gas (CNG) stations will be shut for 24 hours starting from 8 am on Saturday after pipeline ruptures forced the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) to add another day to its weekly schedule of gas outages.
The company says that two continuous ruptures in its main transmission pipelines this week have reduced gas supply tremendously.
“The first sabotage took place at the SSGC’s 16 inch diameter main high pressure transmission gas pipeline near Hyderabad on May
20. The second occurred at the SSGC’s 18 inch main pipeline in Pat feeder canal area on May 21.”
In order to manage the situation, SSGC said its management has decided to observe an additional day of CNG shut down in Karachi and rural Sindh region.
An additional shut down in interior Sindh region will be observed on Sunday, May 25, 2014 from 8 am for another 24 hours. “Furthermore, all the industrial and captive power units in the entire Sindh region will observe gas shut down as per usual schedule, which will start from 7 am on Sunday May 25 and end at 7 am the next morning, on Monday, May 26.”
