Punishing defaulters: PESCO cuts power supply
Pesco officials backed by heavy contingents of police went into the villages and cut off power supply.

The electricity supply to several villages, including an Afghan refugee camp, was cut off by power authorities on Friday over non-payment of bills. Hayat Wazir Bangash, an official of the Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) in Hangu, said despite multiple warnings to residents of Darsamand, Ghundai, Jawaro, Mamo Khawr and the Afghan refugee camp in Thal, electricity bills worth Rs4 million were not paid to the authority. The official said on Friday morning, Pesco officials backed by heavy contingents of police went into the villages and cut off power supply from 20 transformers. The official added that power supply to two crushers installed in the area was also halted as they had defaulted on Rs0.5 million in electricity bills. Bangash said separate cases were filed against some of the residents for failing to pay their bills, and operations will continue in the area till residents start paying their dues.
